About Us

SFITA(NI) – Sea fish Industry Training Association NI, is based in Portavogie Co.Down. We are a not for profit fish industry training school and opened our doors to provide quality training and advice to fishermen, onshore workers and other maritime users in 1986. Although the centre is based in Portavogie, courses are delivered throughout Northern Ireland including the 3 main ports of Kilkeel, Portavogie and Ardglass.

We strive to prevent loss of life or injury and increase survivability of accidents at sea through quality training structured to enhance safety at sea. We take this responsibility seriously and continue to deliver high quality training at a reasonable cost and to obtain government/ EU funding via Seafish to run fully funded training courses where possible.

SFITA(NI) offer courses for new entrants and for experienced seafarers who wish to refresh knowledge and/or progress to the next level.

The courses SFITA(NI) deliver are UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) , Seafish, and Royal Yachting Association (RYA ) approved courses including the internationally recognised STCW training.

SFITA(NI) was set up by fishermen and is run by a voluntary board primarily for the benefit of fishermen and fishing communities. With over 30 years experience and a long association with the industry SFITA(NI) Ltd is the primary source of fishing safety training courses in NI. We are open to suggestions for any areas of training that can be added to our portfolio or ways that we can improve our service, and would be delighted to hear from you. We will do our best to accommodate you for any training you require outside of set dates and venues.
